BRACES – orthodontic procedures

Aligning your teeth will not only improve aesthetics but will also benefit the long-term health of your teeth. Uneven teeth are prone to food lodgement, uneven wear, caries, gingivitis. Properly aligned teeth not only make your smile look beautiful but also helps your tongue, muscles, and jaws function correctly. Inappropriate alignment of teeth makes teeth brushing and flossing difficult resulting in tooth decay and gum inflammation.

To correct crooked teeth, our specialists apply traditional metal or ceramic braces. Metal braces are made of metal brackets that use an elastic rubber band known as a ligature to anchor to the wire. It’s an inexpensive procedure to treat most severe cases. (paediatric dentistry and orthodontic)

CLEAR ALIGNERS

Aligners are orthodontic devices that are transparent, plastic forms of dental braces used to align teeth.

Aligner treatment involves an orthodontist or dentist. The upper and lower jaw impressions are made and eventually converted to a computerized digital model. The alignment of the teeth is virtually done on these computerized models in multiple incremental steps. The proposed teeth position after

virtual teeth alignment is discussed with the patient.
The computerized model suggests stages between the current and desired teeth positions. Aligners are fabricated for each stage, after approval from the patient. These aligners are then given to patients along with the instructions to follow.

Each aligner is worn for 20 to 22 hours per day for two weeks. The average treatment time is 18 months and total duration of treatment depends upon the amount of tooth movement.

Do

  1. Keep aligners in except when flossing, brushing, eating. It’s also best to remove the aligners when drinking warm beverages such as coffee or tea.
  2. Clean aligners with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
  3. Wear each set of aligners for two weeks unless our office directs you to vary from this schedule.
  4. Wear aligners in the correct numerical order. (Each aligner is labeled by number and with a U or an L to designate upper or lower.)
  5. Keep all of your old aligners and bring them to your orthodontic appointments.

Don't

  1. Don’t place your aligners in or on a napkin or tissue. Many aligners have accidentally been thrown out this way!
  2. If you have pets, don’t place your aligners anywhere that your pets can reach them. Pets are attracted to saliva and would enjoy chewing on your Invisalign trays!
  3. Do not use Denture cleaner, alcohol, or bleach to clean your aligners.
  4. Do not use boiling water or warm water on your aligners.
  5. Don’t chew gum with your aligners in.
